The Tohoku region excels in the production of electronics, such as electronic parts, devices, circuits, etc. Universities in the Tohoku area as well, are advancing in the fields of material science, optics, and nanotechnology. The Reconstruction Design Council in Response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, created as a hub for knowledge and innovation, utilizes the science and technology of universities, public research facilities and the industries located in the disaster-hit areas. This serves to foster industrial expansion as well as the creation of new industries and employment. Through the creation of new research hubs for nanotechnology and material science based on government-industry-academia collaboration, and by developing cutting-edge materials and world-leading technology, the program intends to expand the development of Tohoku's material technology industry.
